Hole In the Barn Door

I'm beginning the Quilt Sampler series of classes at the shop again tomorrow night. Attend one class or attend them all. Tomorrow night's lesson will be to demonstrate the process of piecing the classic quilt pattern - Hole in the Barn Door.

You can go on to begin piecing the block in class and finish at home should you not finish this block during class time. Please write or call 308.250.5515 if you would like to attend. Fabric's of your choosing will be used to make your block. You can go on and piece this same block many times and put together into one quilt or attend additional classes and make many different blocks and put them all together in a Sampler Quilt like Eleanor Burns Underground Railroad. Book on sale here now!

I'll be posting the instructions for this block here later this week. Stay tuned!

Sugar and Spice

And all that's nice. Today's joy was getting to the photo's I took of a cherished visit from my sister-in-law and my nieces and nephew last week. We had a wonderful time! We fit in a trip to Chimney Rock, fed a friend's donkeys carrots (Yes Char - we fed Jake and Jimmy!) and the weather cooperated, however briefly, for a trip to the park.
Susanne began her first quilt - a Mango Margarita Basket quilt made from Hoffman Fabric's Mango Margarita Bali Pops from a pattern in Scrap Basket Surprises. We LOVE this book!

Natalie began using a sewing machine for the first time and helped with our current Quilts 4 Cancer project and my 2011 Americanna quilt. And I made them all personalized pillowcases (a huge hit!) Special order yours with us by writing or calling at your earliest convenience. The cost per customized pillowcase is $35. The embroidery is $2 per 1,000 stitches. These make WONDERFUL Christmas gifts. Order early. Yes - it's almost time for Christmas in July!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Lilac's and Fishing

Today's treasure (and pleasure) - Lavendar lilac's and Gone Fishing that is. It's a Lavendar day.

The lilac's smell fantastic this morning! We've been waiting for these since moving to our acreage 7 years ago. I remember the scent on our farm as a little girl. The lilac's lined our drive and it was such a joy to come home to them after school each Spring. I say we've been waiting 7 years for these because each year since moving to the country the lilac's would just begin to bud when lo and behold - a late Spring freeze and they were all gone. Finally - this year - they are making up for lost time and I am savoring every moment. Gosh I love Spring!

And after leaving the country this morning I started quilting my "Gone Fishing". This quilt will look amazing on the wall. I can't wait to have it finished. The top has been done for a while. Am quilting it now. You should see it hanging in the front window soon! Quilt top and binding kit and pattern available at Borders!

Mary's Sangria All Stars Quilt

I've just finished quilting Mary's Sangria All Stars Quilt. It's beautiful! The quilt is made from Hoffman Fabric's Sangria Bali Pops batik fabrics from the Strip Club 2 1/2" strip "All Stars" pattern.

You will find the Sangria Bali Pops and other 'flavors' ( i.e. Cappuccino, Mango Margarita, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmmmm!) at Borders Quilt Shop, as well as the pattern. You can make the quilt top and I would love to quilt it for you!

God Bless America!

Tiz a great day to be an American! I am so proud of our military men and women. I had to come in this morning and pull out my Americana quilt. It's not been quilted yet - but I had to have it out in honor of the good ole USA. My mission is to have this quilted and bound by the 4th of July. Say a prayer for me! : )

This quilt was made from a Nickel Quilt Collection pattern "Star and Crown" from 5" charm squares in red, white and blue fabrics collected form all over the USA. Get your pattern here or contract with us to make you one of these quilts. They are unbelievably beautiful!

See more of the Nickel Quilt patterns at the shop or online. They are all amazing. Happy Quilting!

The Nebraska Windmill

When I learned to quilt 27 years ago I took a Beginner Sampler Class. In that class I was given the pattern for The Nebraska Windmill. I love this pattern! It's home to me. Growing up on a farm and working on a ranch as a teenager - it's my dad to me. So it has always been in my classes as well. And it goes into every one of my Sampler Quilts. Thank you Mary! This was one of the blocks we worked on earlier this week. At next Tuesday's class on April 5th we will be taking on Tiny / Cottage Baskets. Click here for more information. We would love to see you here. Please call 308-254-2557 if you are interested. Our classes are respite for the soul!

McKenna Ryan Quilts

Some of my favorite quilts are those with McKenna Ryan series patterns using her signature collection fabrics manufactured for Hoffman California Fabrics. They are to die for! Well - not exactly. But those of you who know Hoffman Fabrics and McKenna Ryan patterns know what I mean. This is one of my favorites from her "Calling Me Home" pattern series. I just LOVE this quilt!

"All-a-Loon in the Mist"

My next project is going to be from her "Faith Hope Love" series using the batiks made just for this project.
